The EDT MARK-10 disk array
Features
- Sustainable disk throughput benchmarked at 10, 16, and 20 MB (MegaBytes)
per second on SS20.
- Sun SPARCstation compatible
- Standard fast-wide SCSI components
- Configurable number of disk drives
- Configurable number of controller channels
- Configurable amount of software cache memory
- Extensible software and hardware architecture
- Support for the Sun SPARCserver FiberChannel Disk Array at 16 MB per second on the SS20
Considerations
- A single SBus slot is required for the MARK-10 and MARK-16 disk arrays
- Dual SBus slots are required for the MARK-20 disk array
- The multi-threaded architecture requires Solaris 2.3 or later
- Raw disk partitions are used for fast data storage and retrieval; hence they are not mountable as filesystems
Description
The MARK-10, MARK-16, and MARK-20 disk arrays provide sustainable disk
throughput of 10, 16, and 20 MB per second respectively. A pipelined
software architecture using Solaris threads provides a highly
configurable disk array subsystem. Standard SCSI hardware components
are used to provide a cost-effective and flexible hardware platform.
Custom disk configurations are supported by EDT. Please
contact us for details.
As of November 15, 1995 the high-speed disk array software is in
full production release. However, please note that the disk array
hardware is still in BETA release as we are in the process of FCC testing
and qualification.
Applications
Sustainable high speed data capture and retrieval
Digital image and audio capture and playback
Research and development
Software
A standard SunOS loadable software package for the SPARCstation is included with the
MARK series disk arrays. The software package includes the high-speed disk array (HSDA) library,
sample applications with source code and makefiles, and instrumentation programs
to actively monitor disk array performance.
The HSDA library provides both blocked
and streaming access to the disk array, and it includes a data cataloging
facility. Continuous transfers are implemented using Solaris threads and
multi-layer buffering. Ring buffer mode is also supported for efficient access
to high-speed EDT DMA boards.
Support
EDT provides several levels of customer support, from phone consultation to custom design of hardware, software, or FCode drivers, at hourly rates. The HSDA
source code is available for an additional charge.
